The Human Rights League for Rights and Freedoms has called on the Human Rights Council to support international efforts to stop the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the terrorist Houthi militia in Yemen, a step if taken will positively impact the human rights situation and limit militia violations against civilians.
Member of the league, the head of the Broken Share Organization for Mine Victims, Dr. Arwa Al-Khattabi, confirmed in a speech on the sidelines of the 54th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, that Iran is still continuing to smuggle weapons to the Houthi coupist militia, saying that during the past years, many arms smuggling operations to the Houthi militia, whether by land or sea, were discovered and their origin is from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
She pointed out that the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militias contributed to their use against Yemenis and against neighboring countries, which led to a deterioration in the human rights situation in Yemen and an increase in violations, especially of international humanitarian law.
