Alsahwa Net- Minister of Information, Muamar Al-Eryani, said on Sunday that international efforts aimed at convincing Houthis to permit experts of the United Nations (UN) access the decaying Safer oil tanker for assessment and repairing have failed.
In a statement quoted by the state-run Saba News Agency, Al-Eryani said that recent satellite images of the tanker confirm that looming risk is coming amid failing efforts to convince Houthis permit the UN experts access the tanker.
“ Houthi militia manipulates with the tanker problem to achieve political and economic gains with disregard to catastrophic environmental and economic consequences and losses estimated at billions of dollars if the tanker exploded, sank, or the oil spill from the tanker into the Red Sea waters,” said Al-Eryani.
“International community and the UN Security Council, who are responsible for maintaining international peace and security, is required to act immediately and stop this potential disaster that its impacts will last for decades,” he said.
He demanded the international community and the UN to exercise pressures on Houthi militia to contain risks of Safer tanker on Yemen, region and world maritime routs.
