WHO:  New six death cases of cholera registered in Yemen

The World Health Organization on Sunday registered new six death cases of cholera in Yemen, raising the death toll to 1971.

In a report, WHO said that 498 suspicious cases of cholera in Yemen in the period from April to August 14, 2017.

The World Health Organization had declared it sent an emergency team to combat cholera in Yemen during a meeting of the Eastern Mediterranean Region countries held in Geneva from 21-31 May, 2017.

We need to expect something that could go up to 200,000-250,000 cases over the next six months, in addition to the 50,000 cases that have already occurred,” Nevio Zagaria. WHO Yemen representative, told reporters in Geneva by phone.

The speed of the resurgence of the cholera epidemic is unprecedented (for Yemen.”

We have a target of 350 cholera treatment centers and 2,000 oral rehydration points, and we are covering around 10-12 percent of this target at the moment” he added.
