Teacher Dies of Heart Attack After Being Dropped from Yemen Payroll by Houthi Militia

A veteran teacher in Yemen's Hodeidah governorate died of a heart attack Thursday after learning his name was removed from the payroll list by Houthi militia, depriving him of his half-salary payment.

Mansour Al-Nowm, a longtime educator and lecturer at Hodeidah University, returned home Wednesday in distressed condition after being informed he was considered "uneeded" by the militia - a designation stripping him of his already meager income.

Sources close to the family said Al-Nowm's death was directly linked to the severe psychological pressure caused by the militia's decision, which has left thousands of teachers in Hodeidah facing similar financial ruin.

The move is part of a broader campaign by Houthi militia to purge educators assumed by the Shia theocratic militants to be loyal to the government and replace them with militia sympathizers.
