Aden: More than 50,000 suspected cases of malaria recorded, warnings of worsening health situation

The Epidemiological Surveillance Department in the interim capital, Aden, warned of a worsening health situation due to the spread of fevers, most notably malaria, dengue fever, and hemorrhagic fevers, confirming that the city is witnessing a new wave of infections during the current season.

Dr. Majdi Saif Al-Daeri, Director of the Surveillance Department, said in a press statement that Aden has recorded more than 50,000 suspected cases of malaria and nearly 1,000 confirmed cases of dengue fever since the beginning of this year, in addition to 12 deaths, including five cases in Al-Buraiqah District.

Al-Daeri pointed out that these diseases are endemic epidemics in the city, but that deteriorating environmental and living conditions, increased population density, and the proliferation of displacement camps and informal settlements have contributed to their spread this year.

He confirmed that surveillance teams are continuing field surveys and response operations, in addition to implementing awareness campaigns and preventive spraying operations in the affected districts. He called on citizens to cooperate by disposing of stagnant water and visiting health facilities when symptoms appear.
