UN officials calls donors to save Yemenis from famine

The UN Coordinator of Humanitarian Relief Jamie McGoldrick has called, in a press statement, the donor states to commit to their pledges declared in the humanitarian response meeting held in Geneva last month, demanding to urgently fund the response plan.

International donors pledged 1.1 billion for Yemen, the UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres said, affirming the success of the meeting allocated to fund the humanitarian response plan for Yemen.

During the meeting held in Geneva, Gutteres appealed to the fighting sides to grant access to humanitarians and revive diplomatic efforts to end a conflict that has killed over 10,000 civilians.

The conference, co-sponsored by the United Nations, Switzerland and Sweden, raised pledges for over half of the $2.1 billion sought by the U.N. this year in an appeal that was only 15 percent funded previously.
