The United Nations announced the start of meetings between the government and the Houthi militia, in Geneva, regarding the issue of prisoners and abductees.
The office of the envoy said in a statement that the supervising committee began its seventh meeting, starting today in Switzerland, and the committee is chaired by the office of the UN envoy in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross and members of the government and the Houthi militia.
The UN envoy, Hans Grundberg, expressed his hope that the parties would be willing to engage in serious discussions to agree to release the largest number of detainees as the month of Ramadan approaches.
During the committee meeting, Grundberg urged the parties to fulfill what they agreed to commit to regarding the release of the detainees, as well as towards the thousands of Yemeni families whose loved ones are long awaiting for their return.
