UN says 10 governorates contaminated with landmines, and Houthis obstruct arrival of aid

The United Nations has confirmed that ten Yemeni governorates are contaminated with mines planted by the Houthi militia in every area they have reached.

The organization stated that the militias used civilian tools and forms in the manufacture of explosives, which made the number of civilian casualties rise during the truce by more than 57 percent.

In this context, the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen stated that ten governorates were affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance during the last quarter of last year, as most of the incidents were reported in Al Hudaydah Governorate, followed by Marib Governorate, and Saada Governorate, and stressed that expanding the scope of demining activities has become a prerequisite for reducing risks to civilians in contaminated areas.
