A key member of Yemen's national Enquiry Commission into Human Rights Abuses has said the UN-brokered truce in Yemen has been superficial during the year 2022 and brought no progress toward lifting the Houthi siege on the central city of Taiz.
In a statement to media Tuesday, Eshral Almaqtari said, "The truce was superficial, if not unreal, this year, because there was no fulfillment of any of the truce agreement's terms, especially ending the [Houthi] siege on Taiz and opening key roads between different provinces."
"There is also the continued targeted attacks on civilians and more than 103 casualties were recorded in the first four months of the truce," she said. "There were also 97 landmine blast-caused casualties."
