The Yemeni Journalists Union has condemned the torture of journalist Ahmed Maher in a jail in Aden as a video going viral showed him making criminal confessions under duress.
In a statement, the Union said, "What the kidnapped journalist Ahmed Maher was subjected to in the temporary capital, Aden, is humiliation, terrorism and repression. The Union said it "has followed the video of forced confessions of journalist Ahmed Maher, who had been kidnapped in front of his house in Dar Saad in Aden Governorate and taken to an unknown location, and he later appeared making confessions under duress" in circumstances that make his confessions unbelievable "to any sane person."
The Union strongly condemned this repressive and barbaric method against a journalist due to his practice of the profession and his expression of his positions and opinions.
Maher had been kidnapped by the Southern Transitional Council in Aden on August 7.
