Long seen as a rare safe haven in conflict-ravaged Yemen, the province of Shabwa is increasingly becoming a flashpoint of unrest where terror attacks strike frequently.
Early today, unknown gunmen engaged the government forces killing five soldiers and injuring eight others. The unknown gunmen launched a surprise fire assault on a checkpoint in the provincial capital, Ataq, supposedly the most fortified part of Shabwa province, incurring the said casualties.
