A large number of Yemeni officials and activists have renewed their calls for "international" pressures on the Houthi Shia militants to surrender to the government maps of the landmines they have indiscriminately planted in the country.
Assuming the international community will respond and weigh on the Shia (Pigs might fly!), activists launched a campaign on social media using the hashtag #Surrender_the_landmines_map.
Dozens of Yemeni activists have just staged a rally to assert this same demand in the German capital, Berlin.
The Yemeni government's de facto spokesman, information minister Muammar al-Eryani, called for international pressures on the militia to surrender the maps and stop manufacturing landmines manufacturing.
Houthi landmines have killed and injured thousands of Yemenis. The Shia militants have planted more than two million landmines in Yemen since the latest conflict started in 2015, the largest number ever planted by one group since WW2. One mine action program, the Saudi 'MASAM', said yesterday it had thus far removed 338,092 landmines since it started operating in Yemen in 2018.
