Six family members killed by Houthi landmine in western Yemen

Six civilians, members of the same family, were killed by a Houthi landmine in western Yemen on Wednesday, it has been reported.

Local sources said the family on a Hilux car accidentally overrun a landmine near Algharasi Intersection in Hodeidah province which blew the car up killing six members and damaged a number of trucks in the vicinity.

Houthi landmines have been very frequently killing and injuring Yemeni civilians since 2015. There is no organization to gather statistics and the victims could be tens of thousands. Many organizations by mid-2018 were saying Houthis had planted the largest number of landmines planted in a single war since WWII.

The other day the Saudi mine action program (MASAM) operating in Yemen said it had cleared more than 320 thousand landmines in Yemen since it started operating in Yemen four years ago.
