Rights group: The militias deprived two thirds of Yemenis from food security

The Yemeni Alliance for Monitoring Human Rights Violations has affirmed that the war launched by militias of the Houthis and Saleh against Yemenis deprived two thirds of Yemenis from food security.

Executive director of the alliance Mutahar al-Budaiji said that human rights situation in Yemen has dramatically deteriorated since the coup was conducted against the legitimate government in Yemen.

In a working paper presented in the Human Rights Council in Geneva, al-Budaiji affirmed that militias of the Houthis and Saleh looted about $4.7 billion from the budget of the Centeral Bank of Yemen and used this money in killing innocent people.

He affirmed that the war killed 2737 civilians including women and children in 2016 alone.

He also cited that the Houthis closed down seven TV channels 24 newspapers and 86 online news websites, pointing out that they also pursued journalists and activists.

Al-Budaiji also reiterated that 18 journalists are still have been abducted by the Houthis for more than a year and a half.
