Taiz army members not involved in choking own city, STC militiamen are: Sources

Yemen's Taiz army is facing a stubbornly aggressive media campaign accusing it of restricting humanitarian supplies to its own city, a charge that should be pinned to the real perpetrators, the STC militia, local police sources have indicated.

The Taiz Police Department issued a statement on Wednesday saying the hefty illegal taxes on trucks transporting food stuff and fuel at a midway point between Aden and Taiz are being "levied by checkpoints affiliate to the authorities of Lahj" province, a reference to the United Arab Emirate's STC proxy militia.

These burdensome taxes have forced truck drivers to declare a strike and park in Toor Al-Baha area of Lah, south of the besieged Taiz city, for days, compounding an already chronic humanitarian crisis.

Iran's proxy militia of Houthis have already been besieging the central Yemen Taiz from western and eastern directions for more than six years.

"Surprisingly, the UAE's militias are choking Taiz from the southern side and at the same time are launching a propaganda against its army – accusing its members of setting up illegal tax collection checkpoints in the city's entrances, which don’t exist," says Nabil Sharaf, a Taiz-based activist.
