Houthis use US counterterrorism equipment in Marib offensive: Studies center

The Yemeni Dimensions Studies and Researches Center unveiled in a report on Sunday (23 May 2021) that Houthis have been intensively using the US counterterrorism equipment and other weapons they inherited from the Saleh regime to perpetuate their months long war against the government-held city of Marib.

The report said the militants are using tanks of the versions T82, T72 and armored vehicles of the version BTR 80, BM 2020, self-propelled cannons, Katyusha  rockets, surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, Scud missiles as well as Iranian made missiles.

It said the Houthis “used 30 American armored vehicles in their recent war on Marib including 12 vehicles specially affiliate to the counterterrorism program” and “other American armored vehicles originally purchased by the UAE army.”

The report cited the US announcement in 2015 that it was unable to account for more than $500 million worth of U.S weapons - given to Yemen – after the Houthi takeover of Sana’a.
