Retired general says army warfronts need ‘real’ support: quality weapons

A retired army general has told Almashed Alyemeni that the Yemeni army needs ‘genuine, not fake’ support if it is to counter the well-armed Houthi militia.

The general told the news website on the condition of anonymity that the army’s recent gains or successful resistance of the Iran-backed militia are a success given that the army has “resources less than that which Houthis have.”

The general warned that the battles without support is a “major attrition” and called on all the competent to “show a good faith first in resolving the battle by providing the army with quality weapons.”

The Houthi militia a modern arsenal inherited from the former Saleh regime and access to continuous foreign armament, while the Yemeni army is in effect under an undeclared armament ban from superiors.
