Gov’t asks international community to hold Houthis responsible to fuel shortage

Alsahwa Net-The Supreme Economic Council (SEC) asked the international community to assume responsibility towards holding the Houthis accountable for complicating the humanitarian situation because of their violations to the United Nations (UN) sponsored-agreement on the import of fuel products.

The SEC said that actions taken by the government on the flow of fuel to the Houthis-held Hodeida port indicate the government’s eagerness on alleviating suffering of citizens and to avert more humanitarian deterioration.

It indicated that the present fuel shortage in the Houthis-held areas is planned on purpose by the Houthis to escape the implementation of the UN-sponsored regulations on the fuel of  imports to continue the smuggle of the fuel from Iran and use its revenues for their own use.

It explained that the UN-sponsored fuel regulations were intended to use revenues of fuel fees for the payment of the public servants in the Houthis-held areas.

However, the Houthis stole the funds from the UN-supervised special bank account in Hodeida that was set up for disbursement of monthly salaries to the public workers.

It added that the Houthis responded to the regulations with more escalation without paying salaries of the public workers.
