Houthis damage health sector

Alsahwa Net- Yemeni medical sources said that malnutrition and underweight increased significantly among children below five years old especially in the Houthis-held areas.

This coincides with outbreak of several infections such as cholera, dengue fever, malaria, diphtheria, polio and COVID-19.

The sources said that malnutrition and undernutrition have become the worst impact of the ongoing war ignited by the Houthis in 2014.

Malnourished children are at greater risk to dying and their mental development is also at serious risk.

The Houthis’ mismanagement of the heath system has exacerbated the problem and now half of the country’s children suffer chronic malnutrition, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) said.

In this respect, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the Houthis-held Hodeida province recorded the highest rate of malnutrition and underweight among below five -year children during the August analysis.
