Gov’t official calls for swift action to release detained journalists

Alsahwa Net-Minister of Information, Muamar Al-Eryani affirmed on Tuesday that all perpetrators of the Houthis leaders and militants involved in crimes against journalists must not go unpunished.

“On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we remember crimes and violations by Iranian-backed Houthi Militia against journalists, including killing, abduction , arrest, enforced disappearance, torture, forced exile, displacement and looting of property,” Al-Eryani said.

“We remember with deep pain our fellow journalists in Houthis-run prisons, against whom execution orders were issued for their political opinions,” he added.

He said that the Houthi refused to release the detained journalists within the exchange deal that was implemented last mid-October.

He explained that the Houthis continue holding journalists in captivity to use them for political pressure and blackmail.

“We call on the international community and organizations concerned with journalists’ protection to review the tragic conditions experienced by journalists in areas controlled by Houthi militias and pressurize for the release of the detained journalists with no conditions,” he said.
