Gov’t official: Houthis smuggled 14,000 manuscripts

Alsahwa Net-Mayor of the Capital Sana’a, Abdulghani Jameel, said on Tuesday that the Houthis smuggled and disappeared over 14,000 Yemeni ancient rare manuscripts and hundreds of artifacts.

In a cultural event organized by the Culture Office of the Capital Sana’a on the smuggling of manuscripts and artifacts by the Houthis, Jameel said that the Houthis smuggled an old manuscript of the Testament to Israel.

He called on activists concerned with Yemen’s heritage and culture to assume their roles towards preservation of the Yemeni manuscripts and artifacts against smuggling and disappearance.

Director of the Culture Office, Adel Ghobara, said that the Houthis inflicted huge damage to manuscripts and artifacts of one of the most ancient civilizations in the world.

For his part, Khaled Al-Amoodi, said that the Houthis intend to damage the Yemeni identity by smuggling and disappearance of old manuscripts and artifacts.
