Rights Radar calls on investigation of prisoner’s torture death

Alsahwa Net- The Rights Radar, a human rights organization based in Amsterdam of the Netherlands, demanded on Friday a probe into death of one prisoner because of torture in the Houthis-run prison in Sana’a.

“Rights Radar demands investigation of the death of the Houthis-held prisoner: Adel Ka’wat, whose family was preparing to receive him within the release exchange deal expected to be implemented mid this month,” the organization wrote on Friday on its Twitter account.

The Yemeni Lawyer, Abdurrahman Barman said last Thursday that the Houthis informed Ka’wat’s family on the same day about his death in the prison.

Ka’wat was captured following his injury while fighting for the government’s forces in Al-Jawf,

This is the second government’s prisoner reported died of torture during the last two days.

The Houthis handed over last Wednesday prisoner Mohammed Al-Suabari to his family, yet the prisoner died shortly upon his arrival. Al-Subari had been held in captivity by the Houthis since March 2019.

Few days ago, the same organization demanded in a statement the United Nations (UN) agencies to work hard and monitor prisons run by parties to the conflict in Yemen to reduce the number of victims killed by torture murder.

It affirmed on the need for fair and transparent investigation into cases of torture death “to redress the victims and ensure that the perpetrators of these abuses do not go unpunished.”
