Another rebel militia introduces drones to service, kills soldier, injures 3

The Southern Transitional Council militia has begun using armed drones against the Yemeni army, military sources in Abyan said, making the ill-equipped Yemeni army increasingly outgunned by the rebel militias besieging it from the Houthi-held north and now the south.

The UAE-created militia destroyed a military vehicle and injured three soldiers by a drone strike a week ago in the said front, north of Aden. In a new strike early on Sunday, the militia hit the army’s sites in Qarn Alkalasi, east of Abyan’s provincial capital using two armed drones, killing a soldier and injuring three others, one of them critically, military sources said.

A government military general in the front Abdullah al-Marqashi confirmed the attack to Yemen Shabab TV, saying the army had “complained about this ceasefire violation” to the Arab Coalition of which the UAE is a member. The ceasefire does not hold as new supplies of armored vehicles keep coming to the STC.

The Yemeni army is the only military actor effectively banned from armament and kept the weakest in a country where the rebels of Shia extremists and fascist STC have access to strategic weaponry, which Yemenis deem as an aspect of the conspiracy against their legitimate army and government as a whole.
