Houthis use informants to spy on citizens

Alsahwa Net- Human rights activists say that the Houthis use informants to spy on citizens in areas of their control.

Recruited informants include women, community leaders and taxi drivers and motorbike users.

The sources said that the Houthis continue exercising an iron-fist policy towards opponents.

The London-based Asharq Al-Awsat daily Newspaper said that recruited informants have led to the detention of thousands of civilians and dismissal of others from their jobs.

The Houthis detain thousands of civilians throughout their held areas and the capital Sana’a holds the biggest number of civilian detainees.

The paper quoted Tawfiq Al-Samee, a human rights activist, who confirmed that methods of spying on citizens include recruitment of women following their abduction and extortion and the use of electronic taping of phone calls and communications.

Hani Al-Aswadi, chief of the Geneva-based Human Rights Center, said that the Houthis is the worst example of the police state plus being a militia which uses thugs and criminals to spy on citizens.

He added that the Houthis replaced community leaders in their areas to intimidate citizens and spy on their activities.
