Arab League holds emergency session on Yemen’s Safer Tanker

Alsahwa Net-The Arab League held on Monday an emergency session for Arab ministers and directors of environmental issues to discuss the floating Safer tanker, docked off Yemen’s coast in the Red Sea.

Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League for Economic affairs, Kamal Hassan said that a virtual meeting will be held in response to a Saudi request on the issue.

The meeting will discuss ways and mechanism to implement the Arab League Resolution no. 582 that was issued on 24 October 2019 by Arab ministers of Environmental affairs.

The resolution affirms on a propriate solution to avert a looming environmental catastrophe in the Red Sea as a result of no repairing checks to the tanker since 2015.

The Houthis who control the Ras Issa Oil port, north Hodeida nearby the Safer tanker, have reversed their permission to the United Nations (UN) experts to access the tanker for assessment and doing the required repairing service.
