Gov’t slams Griffiths’ silence towards Houthis’ blowing up of civilians’ houses

Alsahwa Net-The government condemned on Saturday silence by the United Nations (UN) envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths on Houthis’ blowing up of citizens’ houses in Al-Baida governorate, central Yemen.

The Iran-backed Houthis militia blew up on Friday three houses in Al-Zouab village in Al-Qurayshya district of Al-Baida, the government and local sources said.

“We are surprised by the silence of the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, towards these heinous crimes and violations by the Houthis militia which are flagrant violation of the international humanitarian law and represent war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani said in a statement quoted by the state-run Saba News Agency.

He indicated that the Houthis follow the suit of Al-Qaeda and ISIS by blowing up houses and government facilities.

He said that the incident forms a new evidence on resemblance of methods and approach between the Houthis and other terror groups.

The Houthis have been blowing up residences of their opponents in areas of their control to create panic and fear among the public to consolidate their authority and retaliate against their opponents, according to Al-Eryani.
