Gov’t reaffirms return of state offices in Socotra

Alsahwa Net- The acting cabinet said on Tuesday that the return of the state civil and security offices in Socotra is a must to restore the situation.

It indicated that the return of the government local authority to Socotra represents basic steps to the implementation of Al-Riyadh agreement.

Southern separation rebels known as the Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized control of Socotra in June of this year following clashes with the government forces.

The acting-prime Minister, Maeen Abdulmalik said that the implementation of Al-Riyadh agreement including its political and military terms is crucial to counter existing economic challenges including the devaluation of the national currency, restoring the state and ending the Houthis’ coup.

Abdulmakik voiced this during a meeting with the cabinet members to discuss military, political and service developments and the progress of accelerating mechanism to the Al-Riyadh agreement.

He also reviewed results of the ongoing talks to the formation of a new cabinet and stances of political forces to outline the top priories for the upcoming period.

Minister of Defense, Mohamed Al-Magdashi, presented a situation report on the field military developments particularly in Al-Jawf, Al-Baida, Nehm and Serwah.

The government and the STC signed Al-Riyadh agreement in November 2019 following seizure of Aden city by the latter in August 2019.
