Deputy President meets UN Envoy

Alsahwa Net- The Yemeni state-run Saba News Agency reported on Wednesday that the Deputy President, Ali Mohsen Saleh met on the same day the United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.

Saleh and Griffiths discussed national developments and efforts led by the latter to reach an inclusive political solution.

Saleh appreciated the efforts exerted by the UN envoy and his team on this respect.

He affirmed that the legitimate government led by the President is keen to reach sustainable peace based on the three references which include the Gulf initiative, its implementation mechanism, outcomes of the national dialog conference and the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.

He highlighted the response by the government to several initiatives and calls intended to advance the comprehensive peace.

He indicated that the Saudi-led coalition and the government army declared the unilateral ceasefire to counter risks of the COVID-19 spread.

 Yet, the Houthis rebels responded to the truce with more escalation and mobilization including the use of ballistic missiles and uncrewed aerial vehicles against the government-held areas and civilians’ sites in Saudi Arabia, according to Saleh.

He said that the Yemeni citizens have been constantly suffering several crises including endemics, bad living standards and recently the damages caused the floods across various Yemeni areas.

He explained that the Houthis utilize all these sufferings, steal the public resources and continue intimidating peoples and extort them for the benefit of their fighting against the government’s forces, a thing with receive no condemnation by the international community.

He affirmed that the defiance by the Houthis on blocking the UN experts to access the floating Safer tanker in the Red Sea represents disregard to international efforts on this aspect which threatens a disaster on the region and the world.

 He demanded the UN envoy to inform the UN Security Council about this defiance and indifference shown by the Houthis towards this looming disaster.

He added that positive results have achieved so far on the implementation of Al-Riyadh agreement which was signed between the government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

 For his part, Griffiths expressed his appreciation to the positive response by the legitimate government to efforts aimed at resolving the Safer tanker.

He reaffirmed that he will continue exerting efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution based the references to end sufferings of the Yemeni people.
