Parliament demands firm stand by UN towards Houthis

Alsahwa Net-The Parliament demanded on Monday the United Nations (UN), international organizations and the five permanent member countries of the UN Security Council to take firm stand towards the Houthis’ abuses against the Yemeni people.

Speaker of the Parliament, Sultan Al-Barakani, said in a letter to the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths that the Houthis continue the seizure of residences and properties of the parliament’s members in the capital Sana'a and other areas of their control.

He called for exercising more efforts to mitigate the bad situation exacerbated by the Houthis’ coup and the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He explained that the Houthis confiscated recently house of the parliamentarian Yasser Al-Awadi and houses of his brothers and all their belongings in Sana’a and Al-Baida.

Al-Barakani indicated that the Houthis every day commit racial crimes against the entire population.

He said that lawmakers and journalists who stood against the Houthis rebellion, have been exposed to death sentences, intimidation and other forms of persecution.

He said that such practices show defiance by the Houthis to the international law and this disagrees with the principles of the international humanitarian law.

He added that such practices undermine the peace and threaten failure of the UN-led peace efforts towards sustainable peace in Yemen.
