Gov’t official holds Houthis responsible for safety of detainees

Alsahwa Net- The Minister of Information, Muamar Al-Eryani, held on Wednesday the Houthis accountability for safety of illegal detainees amid reports of coronavirus cases in detention centers.

Al-Eryani said that reports from the capital, Sanaa, confirms infection of one detainee in the Houthis-run prisons with the coronavirus.

“It poses a serious threat to the life and safety of hundreds of social dignitaries, journalists, activists and all the prisoners and abductees in the Houthi-run prisons,” Al-Eryani said.

He said that the Houthis rejected “all proposals made by government for immediate and unconditional exchange of prisoners and abductees.”

The UN sponsored-Stockholm Agreement that was signed in December 2018 failed so far to bring full release of all the detainees.

The UN said last March that the government and the Houthis reached an agreement on the exchange of detainees.

However, this agreement has not been implemented yet amid government’s blame on the Houthis for procrastination to implementation of the prisoners’ exchange.
