Yemeni Press Day marks six year-persecution by Houthis against journalists

Alsahwa Net- The Yemeni Press Day marked on Tuesday six-year constant persecution by the Houthis militia against the journalists including murder, torture in prison and illegal detention.

Ten reporters who have been in illegal detention for over five years, stood last April for illegal trial in Sana’a by a Houthis-run court.

Four journalists were sentenced to death and the others were ruled imprisonment.

The Yemeni media professionals still remember the heinous crime when the Houthis used two journalists: Abdullah Qabil and Yousuf Al-Aizary as human shields at a military site in Dhamar governorate.

Qabil and Al-Aizary were killed in the site on 9 June 2015 by an airstrike carried out by the Saudi-led coalition.

An official of the Islah’ Media Department, said that 11 journalists who used to work for the party were killed by the Houthis militia since 2014.

Other 23 reporters of the Islah party were injured and 120 were abducted during the same period.

The Houthis have also dismissed 37 media professionals from their public jobs between 2015 to 2020.

“Yemen had never seen such levels of attacks against the media outlets and the media professionals,” one journalist said.
