Gov’t: Houthis plunder YR35 billion from CBY office in Hodeida

Alsahwa Net- The government condemned on Monday the Houthis for plundering YR35 billion over ($58 million) from the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) branch in Hodeida.

The stolen money was agreed initially to be allocated for monthly payments of the public servants.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released on Monday that the action blatantly violates understandings on interim measures of fuel product imports into Hodeida port that were agreed with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen.

It held the Houthis accountability to failure of the agreed understandings and its consequences.

It called on the UN to assume responsibility and force the Houthis to submit data on the status of the special bank account that was created at the CBY in Hodeida to receive revenues of the Hodeida port.

This special bank account was created to be supervised by the UN and collected money to be spent on monthly payments of the public servants in the Houthis-held areas.

The foreign ministry said that the Houthis’ persistent defiance to implementation of the agreed commitments represents an obvious proof for no intention to peace and continuity to steal monthly payments of the state servants.

It called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take serious action against such acts and violations by the Houthis militia.

The public servants in the Houthis-held areas have been without payment for nearly four years.
