Over 150 organizations sign petition for revoking death sentence against journalists

Alsahwa Net-Over 150 local, Arab and international human rights and press freedom organizations demanded the United Nations (UN) and friends of Yemen to support efforts on saving lives of four detained journalists that face risk of death by the Houthis rebels in Sana’a.

The four journalists and other six detained journalist were ordered death rulings and imprisonment sentence by the Houthis on 11 April

Six of the detained journalists remain in custody despite their release order by the Houthis-run court.

The Houthis militants arrested the total ten journalists together in mid-2015 at hotel in Sana’a.

The 150 organizations that signed the petition for release of the journalists, called on all parties to the conflict to support right to freedom of expression and stop silencing journalists and media outlets.

It called on the UN and its panel of experts on Yemen and the media freedom alliance that is composed of 35 countries to overturn the execution sentence against the four journalists and release them immediately.

The four journalists include: Abdulkhaleq Amran, Akram Al-Waleedi, Al-Hareth Humaid and Tawfiq Al-Mansouri.
