Protest in Aden against collapse of public service

Alsahwa Net- Hundreds of people protested on Friday’s evening in several districts of Aden against collapse of the public service.

The protesters blocked several roads and set tires on fire across the city.

They demanded improvement of the public service particularly the electricity and water and relief to the flooding affected people.

The city witnessed an entire public service collapse following a flooding caused by heavy rains and high winds that hit the city mid last week.

The flooding swept away people, houses and vehicles with no emergency response to the disaster by the local southern rebels who expelled the government and seized the city early last August.

Known as the Sothern Transitional Council (STC), the rebels signed early last November with the government the Al-Riyadh agreement to end the rebellion and restore the government order.

Western diplomats and Saudi officials called last week for an immediate implementation of the Al-Riyadh agreement and the government’s return to Aden to respond to the flooding impacts.

However, the government members were blocked last Thursday entry to Aden by the southern rebels.

The government held last Thursday the STC rebels accountable to hinderance of its return to Aden.

It said in a statement that this action by the STC rebels ignores the hard situations that citizens experience due to the deterioration of the public service.
