Alsahwa Net-The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Saturday that it works on raising preparedness of 37 hospitals in Yemen to respond to the COVID-19.
Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population in Aden reported on Friday 10 March the first confirmed case of the coronavirus in Shehr district of Hadramout.
Following announcement of the first confirmed case of the COVID-19, The WHO Representative for Yemen, Altaf Musani, said in a media statement that the organization works with the health authorities and the United Nations to raise preparedness of 37 hospitals particularly departments of the intensive care units (ICU).
He said that the ICU does not only mean beds and ventilators, but it also includes medication supply and raising capacities of the health workers.
He affirmed that the WHO works also on strengthening preparedness of technical laboratories to test any suspected case of the COVID-19.
The organization has already provided real-time RT PCR coronavirus detectors to the local health authorities in Sana’a, Aden and Mukalla, according to Musani.
He added that the WHO is working to provide more PCR coronavirus detectors to strengthen response of the local health system.
