Yemen closes key border crossing with Saudi Arabia

Alsahwa Net-The Yemeni authorities closed on Wednesday Al-Wadea border crossing until indefinite time to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.

Deputy Prime Minister and acting minister of Transportation, Salem Al-Khanbashi sent a letter to the crossing administration to shut down the land port until further notice.

The closure is to prevent arrival of the COVID-19 infected cases to Yemen, according to Al-Khanbashi.

For its part, the management of Al-Wadea publicized the closure to all military and security personnel of the crossing.

The crossing was the sole operational land port with Saudi Arabia before this full closure.

The crossing remained opened for goods flow between Yemen and Saudi Arabia during the partial closure of past weeks.

Yemen extended on March 30 closures of its ports for two extra weeks that began 1st April.

Yemen has reported no COVID-19 case yet and total cases of the disease reached over than 3,000 in Saudi Arabia, according to the World Meters updated page.

Other ports of Yemen remain open only for commercial goods and humanitarian cargo.
