YJS demands release of all abducted journalists over Corona spread risks

Alsahwa Net- The Yemeni journalists Syndicate (YJS) renewed on Tuesday its demand for release of all detained journalists in the Houthis-run-prisons and in government-held prisons to prevent the corona spread.

It said that it follows up with deep concern medical conditions of the detained journalists in Sana’a amid risks of the corona outbreak that affected several countries around the world.

Fears of the COVID-19 spread and repeated warning by human rights organizations on health deterioration of the detainees in Yemen have made the YJS to renew its call for release of the detained journalists in Yemen.

The YJS said that abducted journalists suffer cruel standards and inhumane treatment, suffer diseases and their confinement facilities lack hygiene with no good diet system.

Release of the detained journalists and political dissidents is a must to save the detainees from any harm that they might sustain from the COVID-19 potential outbreak, the YJS said.

It held all parties to the conflict responsible to release of the detained journalists and political activists.

It indicated that the collapsing health system in Yemen will not allow the detainees to access the health care in the event the disease spread.

It said that the Houthis militia detain 16 journalists among them two reporters who were ordered by the Houthis-run prosecution to be freed.

However, none of them has been released yet.

It added that other five journalists are being detained by the government forces in Marib and Taiz and one reporter is being held captive by Ak-Qaeda in Hadramout.

It appreciated local and international efforts towards release of the detained journalists and political activists.

It said that it looks for a positive humanitarian response by parties to the conflict.

Yemeni human rights activists launched on Tuesday a social media campaign advocating for release of the Yemeni detainees to save their lives from endemics.
