Government army officer survives two ambushes in south Yemen

Alsahwa Net-Commander of the Fourth Brigade of the Presidential Protection Forces, Mahran Al-Qubati survived on Monday two separated ambushes in south Yemen, military sources said.

The government blamed the two incidents on the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militants.

The government’s forces including the Presential Protection Forces clashed last August with the STC rebels in Aden and the fighting then ended with the STC’s seizure of the city and other nearby governorates.

This time, the STC militants set up two ambushes; the first was in Al-Mahfad district of Abyan and the second was on Al-Arm area, southwest Shabwa, the military sources said.

The sources said that the ambush of Al-Mahfad resulted into injury of one guard to Al-Qubati and no one was hurt by the other ambush in Shabwa.

Both the government and the STC signed early last November Al-Riyadh agreement to reorganize armed groups in Aden and reinstate the government.

However, the government says that the STC hinders implementation of the agreement by mobilizing new forces for military escalation in Aden, Lahj and Abyan.
