Yemen suspends work in courts and prosecution

Alsahwa Net- The Higher Judiciary Council said on Monday that work in courts and prosecution offices would be suspended from the coming Wednesday until next June as a preventive measure to control Coronavirus spread.

The council said in a news release that it approved work suspension in courts and prosecution offices to support the government’s efforts against spread of the world pandemic.

That World Health Organization (WHO) declared last Wednesday the infectious disease a global pandemic and warned that number of affected countries will increase.

Yemen has already announced shutdown of its ports and suspended all incoming outgoing flights starting from Tuesday 17 March 2020.

Yemen’s Ministry of Education has also followed the suit and suspended education for one week in all public and private schools starting from Monday 15 March.

The council said that work suspension in courts and prosecution offices will preserve health of the judges and the judiciary personnel.

However, some judges and prosecution members will be working to resolve and finish urgent cases and issues during the coming leave.

It instructed administrators of prisons to release inmates who are in confinement for minor offenses and to ensure application of preventive health measures in detention facilities.
