Yemen: Donors threaten cease of assistance

Alsahwa Net- The donor governments have threatened suspension of assistance to Yemen because of Houthis-imposed restrictions on delivery of aids to the needy people in the Houthis-held areas.

The European Union (EU) said in a statement released on Friday that challenges set up by the Houthis on the humanitarian work in Yemen may lead to reduction of assistance or halt of distribution.

The EU demanded removal of all restrictions and challenges to the humanitarian relief work.

More than 80 percent of the country’s population is in need for aids, according to the UN reports that say Yemen is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

UN officials and relief agencies met on Thursday in Brussels to discuss collective reaction to the Houthis-tax imposing on aid agencies and other challenges.

The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, demanded parties to the conflict in Yemen commitment to the international humanitarian law and safe delivery of aids to the needy people with no restrictions.
