UN Special Envoy to brief UNSC on Yemen situation

Alsahwa Net- The United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths is scheduled to brief the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday about his new efforts for peace in Yemen.

Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock, will join the briefing to talk about the humanitarian situation.

Griffiths met last Thursday the Houthis’ negotiating delegation in Muscat and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman’s Foreign Ministry, Yousuf Bin Alawi.

He also met President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi in Al-Riyadh and briefed him on his vision and his next steps for peace.

Griffiths said that implementation of the Stockholm agreement on Hodeida can strengthen confidence for reaching peace in Yemen.

He also discussed with Hadi developments in the region and their consequences on peace and stability opportunities in Yemen.

Yemeni sources said earlier that Griffiths started new efforts for new peace talks between the Houthis rebels and the government to extend his term that expires in the upcoming February.

In this respect, the UNSC extended this week term of the UN Hodeida mission for additional six months that expires next mid-July.
