Houthi official threatens thuggery against female relatives to arbitrary detainees

Alsahwa Net- Yahya Saree, a Houthis-affiliated security official who governs the notorious Political Security Prison in Sana’a, threatened to use thuggish acts against female relatives to arbitrary detainees, a local human rights organization said.

Saree released his threats following talks by the female relatives to the media about torture and mistreatment their loved ones are subjected to in the prison by Saree himself and his fellow militants, the National Organization of the Yemeni Media Professionals said in a statement.

Ten Yemeni journalists are among the arbitrary detainees who have been in illegal detention since 2015.

The organization which is known as “Sada” said that the threats were intended to silence the detainees’ relatives and to conceal crimes the militants carry out against the illegal detainees in prisons.

The organization held Saree accountability to any acts that might happen against the detainees or their relatives.

It renewed demands to the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths and international organizations to exercise pressures on the Houthis to instantly release the abducted journalists.
