President’s advisor: Stockholm agreement is dead

Alsahwa Net-  Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi, an advisor of President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi said on Tuesday that the Stockholm agreement is dead and that the United Nations (UN) must do its responsibility to the situation.

The government and the Houthis rebels signed on 13 December 2018 the UN-sponsored Stockholm agreement to end the fighting in Hodeida, release prisoners and end the Houthis’ blockade on Taiz city.

Al-Mekhlafi voiced the statement to the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat Daily Newspaper.

He said that the agreement has become in- executable because of the Houthis’ procrastination to implementation of the agreement.

The agreement requires the Houthis to hand over Hodeida city and ports to the local authority.

However, none of those have been applied yet.

Al-Mekhlafi said that the Houthis have no desire to peace and this was obvious following effectiveness of the agreement.

He indicated that the UN Special Envoy to Yemen did not name spoiler of the agreement and thus it became un-implementable.

He said that the Houthis militants benefit from delay of the agreement implementation for receiving Iranian arms cargo via Hodeida port that is not under strict inspection.

This coincides with the one-year anniversary of the agreement signing in Sweden, yet never materialized on the ground.
