UN concerned over escalating violence in Hodeida

Alsahwa Net- Head of the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA) and Chief of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC), Abhijit Guha, expressed on Monday his deep concern over the growing violence witnessed recently in Hodeida governorate and its surrounding areas.

“The head of mission is alarmed by the reported loss of lives and the suffering among the Yemeni people caused by such attacks,” a statement by Guha read.

He indicated that such attacks “also jeopardize the safety of members” of the RCC, the body responsible for the ceasefire monitoring.

He urged “all parties to refrain from any action that may be in contravention to the terms and the spirit of the Stockholm Agreement, and avoid further escalation of the situation.”

He also urged use of the de-escalation mechanism established with the support of the UNMHA to resolve differences and support ongoing efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Hodeida.

This UN concerns about the situation in Hodeida came amid continued escalation by the Houthis in Hodeida by bombing citizens’ houses and the government’s forces sites.

The Houthis rebels attacked last Sunday seat of the government’s members to the RCC in Hodeida, using missiles and drones.

The government said that the attack is a dangerous escalation that might fail the Stockholm agreement.
