Houthi official steals YR three billion

Alsahwa Net- The Houthi Presidency Office Administrator, Ahmed Hamed has reportedly embezzled YR 3 billion ($5.4 million), media reports in Sana’a said.

The Houthis budgeted the stolen money to repair a public electricity station in the capital Sana’a and asked Hamed to follow up the project.

However, Hamed took the project’s money to his personal bank account and justified his action by saying that the Public Electricity Corporation is incapable to implement the repairing work.

Hamed instructed officials of the public electricity station to use old diesel generators and to sell the public power supply at YR280 per Kilowatt which is the same commercial power supply rate.

Sources said that the Houthis use revenues of the public electricity supply for their own use and sell the public power at commercial rate which is extremely expensive.

The public power supply rate used to be only YR6 prior the Houthis’ takeover of the capital Sana’a in late 2014.
