Parliament Speaker warns against dividing Yemen

Alsahwa Net- Speaker of the Parliament, Sultan Al-Barakani cautioned on Tuesday against implications of attempts to divide Yemen.

Al-Barakani pronounced this during his meeting with the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Michael Aron and Deputy Chief of the United States Diplomatic Mission to Yemen, Junid Jay Munir.

Al-Barakani said that attempts of dividing Yemen will have negative implications on the local, regional and international levels.

“These acts benefit only the Iran-backed Houthis and the project of Iran in the region,” said Al-Barakani.

He discussed the developments in Aden and Abyan with the two diplomats and efforts taken by Yemen’s leadership to overcome the rebellion in Aden and Abyan by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militants.

He indicated that the new rebellion in Abyan is an attempt to foil the Saudi efforts towards ending Aden rebellion.

Meanwhile, the government of Yemen held the United Arab Emirates (UAE) accountable to the Aden rebellion and its consequences.

It held an emergency meeting on Tuesday and vowed combating the armed rebellion in Aden using all legal means to ensure end of the mutiny and recover security of the city.

It asked the international community to do its part for supporting the government of Yemen to preserve Yemen’s security and unity.

In the same respect, the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations (UN), Abdullah Al-Sa’adi blamed the UAE for military, logistic and media support for the rebellion in Aden.

In a briefing to the UN Security Council (UNSC) session on Yemen on Tuesday, Al-Sa’adi demanded the UAE to stop its support for separation militants and abide by the declared goals of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

He indicated that the Emirati-backed separatists continue their rebellion in other parts of south Yemen which fails the Saudi attempts to resolve the situation.
