Houthis turn public hospital basement into private detention center

Alsawha Net- Human rights activists in Dhamar, 100 km south the capital Sana’a, said that the Houthis militants have turned the basement of Dhamar Public Hospital into a new private detention center.

They have already put 80 abductees from various parts of the country inside the new illegal detention facility. Moreover, security measures around the hospital have been tightened after being changed into a detention place. Other prisons that have been already established in Dhamar are also full of opponent detainees.

A human rights report that was published recently indicated that over 3,000 abductees and enforced disappeared people are being held captives in Dhamar and vulnerable to different forms of physical and psychological torture.

Around 1,998 of those detainees in Dhamar are from the same governorate. So far, the Houthis have obstructed implementation of a detainee-swap agreement that they signed last December in Sweden with the government as part of trust-building measures for a peace agreement to end the fighting.
