Griffiths seeks to win back Yemen’s trust

Alsahwa Net- The UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths is to visit the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday to meet Yemeni officials in an attempt to normalize relations with Yemen government and win back its trust, Yemeni officials told Alsahwa Net.

The sources said that Griffiths seeks to assure the Yemeni government that the United Nations will deal transparently and fairly to implement the peace agreement reached between the Yemeni fighting parties in December 2018.

According to Asharq Al Awsat newspaper, Griffiths’ visit comes a few days after leaked reports that the legitimate government might withdraw from the Stockholm Deal, mainly after Houthi militias launched attacks on Abha civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia, and continued to violate the truce in the province of Hodeidah.

It is set that Griffiths would hold talks with Vice President Ali Mohsen Saleh al-Ahmar due to the presence of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi in the United States for routine medical checkups.
