YJS condemns torture of journalists, holds Houthis full responsibility

Alsahwa Net- The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) has said it received reports  about  constant torture of the Yemeni journalists detained in the Political Security prison in Sana’a.

YJS strongly condemned the torture, demanding to immediately release the journalists and hold the perpetrators of torture accountable.

It also called on all local and international human rights organizations, the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab, Federation of Arab Journalists to express their solidarity of their fellow journalists and use all means to halt the torture practiced against them.

Meanwhile, relatives of the journalists told Alsahwa Net that the Houthis confiscated clothes of Yemeni journalists, asserting that they are subjected to torture and mistreatment.

The Abductees’ Mothers Association had appealed to the United Nations and its envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to immediately intervene and save the detainees held in the Political Security Prison in Sana’a.

The International Federation of Journalists in February condemned the use of ten Yemeni journalists as hostages and bargaining chips.

The detained journalist are Abdulkhaleq Ahmad Emran, Akram Saleh Al-Walidi, Al-Hareth Saleh Hameed, Tawfeeq Mohammed Al-Mansouri, Hisham Ahmad Tartoum, Hisham Abdulamalek Al-Yousefi, Haitham Abdulrahman Raweh, Issam Ameen Balgheith, Hassam Abdullah Anab and Salah Mohammed Al-Qaidi.

“During the last four years of their illegal detention, those who hold them have broken all international conventions and norms on the treatment of prisoners. They were subjected to physical and psychological torture, denied health care, family visits and other basic needs,” IFJ added in a press release.

“A few days ago, we were hopeful that their ordeal was coming to an end and that they would be reunited with their families and colleagues. Instead they are now facing an unjust and bogus court”.
