Houthis loot funds of Yemeni sports clubs

Alsahwa Net- The Houthis have looted the financial allocations of Yemeni sports clubs in Sana’a and dismissed its employees , sources of the Youth Ministry have revealed.

The sources noted that the Yemen sports clubs possesses investments in Sana’a, pointing out that the Houthis seized their funds.

They further said that the Houthis used some properties of the club as detention centers in which their opponents are detained.

The Houthi rebels have been accused of looting millions of dollars worthy humanitarian assistance, which were allotted to workers in health centers in the areas run by the Houthis, sources of the Houthi-run Health Ministry in Sana’a told Alsahwa Net.

The sources affirmed that Houthi leaders could falsify documents and thus received financial amounts allocated for health workers from international organizations.

The sources affirmed that most Yemeni health workers do not receive any salaries and that caused the closure of many health centers, pointing out that Houthi leaders are selling medical supplies and medicines.

The UN World Food Programme accused last month the Houthis of looting trucks of assistances provided to the Yemeni hungry people.

WFP demanded an immediate end to the diversion of humanitarian food relief in Yemen “ after uncovering evidence of the practice in the capital Sana’a and other parts of the country controlled by the Ansarulah (Houthi) movement”.

“This conduct amounts to the stealing of food from the mouths of hungry people,” says WFP Executive Director David Beasley. “At a time when children are dying in Yemen because they haven’t enough food to eat, that is an outrage. This criminal behaviour must stop immediately.”

During their checks, WFP monitors amassed photographic and other evidence of trucks illicitly removing food from designated food distribution centres. They also found that the selection of beneficiaries was being manipulated by local officials and that food distribution records were being falsified. It was discovered that some food relief is being given to people not entitled to it and some is being sold for gain in the markets of the capital.
